Headline: Sign says it all
When will $4 per gallon gas prices arrive? In the Peotone area, the answer is now. Prices at the Casey’s General Store on Peotone-Wilmington Road rose above the $4 mark for the first time late Wednesday and remained at that level this morning. Gas prices in the Dwight, Kankakee, Momence and Watseka areas hovered around the $3.95 mark.

On May 9-10, St. Anne Grade School sent five relay teams to compete at the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) Class A State Track and Field meet at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria. Additionally, St. Anne students competed in individual events, including Kathryn Graf, center, who came away with a fourth-place finish in the eighth-grade girls’ high jump. She jumped 4-feet, 10-inches to medal. The coaches for St. Anne are Ann Lavazza, left, and Amy Fox.

Olivet Nazarene University held its 28th annual Olivet Open at the Elks Country Club in Aroma Park last Friday. Gary Newsome, Olivet’s head football coach, chips a shot onto the green during the event, which is part of the Larry Watson Memorial Golf Series. The series was established to honor the legacy of Watson, a long-time coach and athletic director at the university, and to help underwrite scholarships at ONU. Watson died in July, 2004, after a long battle with cancer.
