Karen I. Canup, 59, of Metropolis, and sister of Kankakee residents, died Thursday (Aug. 27, 2009) at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
George Sheehan, 80, of Beecher, died Friday (Aug. 28, 2009) at St. James Hospital.
• John W. Hess, 97, of Kankakee, died Friday (Aug. 28, 2009) in the emergency room at Riverside Medical Center.
• A woman from New York is riding horseback across the country, about 20 miles at a time. She has been staying with area families and says the hospitality on her trip has been amazing.

Mary J. Cermak Bolatto, 78, of Braidwood, passed away Thursday (Aug. 28, 2009) at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes Ltd., Braidwood Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Dale Tolly will officiate.
Luther C. Peterson Sr., 80, of Channahon, died Thursday (Aug. 27, 2009) at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Sunday at the Reeves Funeral Home, 219 N. Joliet St., Wilmington. Pastor Ron Taylor will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Memorials may be made in his name to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
John Gayduk, 89, of Manteno, formerly of Chicago, died Wednesday (Aug. 26, 2009) at the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private services have been held. Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Manteno, was in charge of arrangements.
Jeffrey D. Howell, 52, of Kankakee, died Thursday (Aug. 27, 2009) at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Andy Anthony will officiate.
Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens, Aroma Township. Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
