Olan Eugene Benfield, 62, of Las Cruces, N.M., died Sunday (July 26, 2009) at La Posada — Mesilla Valley Hospice, due to complications following open heart surgery.
• Due to the hog manure lagoon spill in Spring Creek in Iroquois County last week, the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department has recommended that residents near the creek should have their well water tested. The recommendation is for people living north and east of 1100N Road and 400E Road within a quarter-mile of Spring Creek.
• Michael Wilson is only 15, but he will be tried as an adult in the murder case involving Ryan Graefnitz.
• Columnist and reporter Dennis Yohnka finds the oldest and newest food vendors (in terms of service) at the Kankakee County Fair. There is no doubt that visitors to the 2009 fair are definitely going to find something good to eat.
