Three probable cases of swine flu were reported in Joliet today, though none have been confirmed, according to a press release issued by the Will County Health Department.
The patients, all girls from Joliet ages 7, 8 and 11, have been released from hospitals and are recovering.
Two elementary schools in the area will be closed Friday as a precaution.
CHICAGO (AP) — Health officials say the number of probable swine flu cases in Illinois has risen to 17.
Officials say the new total includes three new cases in Cook County, four new cases in Kane County and one case in McHenry County.
That’s eight more than what the Illinois Department of Public Health announced Wednesday.
Department spokeswoman Kelly Jakubek (JAYK’-uh-bek) says the state hasn’t yet received confirmation from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about any of the test results. The cases won’t be considered “confirmed” until the CDC does its own testing.
Visitation for Donald E. Focken, 69, of Watseka, formerly of Martinton, will be from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Segur-Knapp Funeral Home in Watseka.
Visitation for Charlie “Buddy” Smith Jr., 85, of Kankakee, will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the Jones Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church in Bradley until the 10 a.m. funeral service.
Kiahynay Shanta Nickens, infant daughter of Junius Nickens and Laquita S. Felton, both of Kankakee, died Saturday (April 25, 2009) at the University of Chicago, Comer Children’s Hospital, shortly after birth.
Donald A. Borchardt, 80, of Manhattan, died suddenly Wednesday (April 29, 2009) at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, after a brief illness.
Joseph A. Anderson, 82, of Manteno, longtime resident of Dolton and Pullman, died Saturday (April 25, 2009) at the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno.
Joyce Wagner Dankel, 84, of Kankakee, died Tuesday (April 28, 2009) at Provena Heritage Village.
Stanley R. Minard, 45, of Findlay, formerly of Watseka, died Saturday (April 25, 2009) at his home.
Cremation rites have been accorded for Clyde W. Morden Jr., 72, of St. Anne. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. May 9 at the South Elkhorn Cemetery in Milledgeville.
