Coming in print: March 27, 2009

• The American Cue Sports Illinois State Championships began Thursday at Quality Inn and Suites in Bradley and runs through Sunday. Several local players are participating.

• The Illinois Supreme Court set back plans for a City of Kankakee-backed landfill Wednesday by ordering the Appellate Court to vacate its ruling of approval and reconsider.

• State policymakers need to improve the business climate if they want to grow the agricultural industry, according to a group of major farm organizations in Illinois that met with Gov. Pat Quinn Thursday.

• By the end of this year’s high school basketball season, longtime WKAN broadcaster Lee Schrock had announced his 1,800th game.

• If the mix of theology and nuclear fission seems out of place, try adding a dose of soccer. That’s the odd formula Brooke McClure of Bourbonnais is using at the University of Illinois these days in her study of nuclear engineering.

• As part of Reality Illinois, students from Peotone High School, put on rubber gloves and carried yellow tote bags to gather cigarette butts at Peotone Park. The efforts are aimed at promoting tobacco abstinence among youths.
