Iraq wants all US troops gone by end of 2011

BAGHDAD (AP) - Iraq wants to eliminate any chance U.S. forces will stay here after 2011 under a proposed security pact and to expand Iraqi legal jurisdiction over U.S. troops until then, a close ally of the prime minister said Thursday. (more…)

Illinoisans flood polls on last day of early voting

CHICAGO (AP) — Illinoisans have been lining up all day to cast ballots on the last day of early voting.
Election officials estimate nearly 10,000 people voted in Chicago and suburban cities during the first hour polls were open. That’s on top of Wednesday’s statewide rush. (more…)

Ill. governor seeks foreclosure protections

CHICAGO (AP) — Gov. Rod Blagojevich wants state lawmakers to do something to help prevent home foreclosures.

Blagojevich says he’s pushing for a new law that would establish 3-month moratoriums on foreclosures for homeowners who enter mortgage counseling. The proposal will be introduced during the General Assembly’s veto session in November. (more…)
