Visitation for Richard Lillard Sr., 62, of Chicago, a former area resident for 25 years, will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the 9:30 a.m. services at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Kankakee. He died June 21, 2008 at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago.

• Trips to the emergency room have been shortened at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital since a more efficient system was adopted one year ago. Hospital officials recognized patients were waiting longer for beds — a nationwide problem — and implemented hospital-wide initiatives to shorten ER visits. Provena is among a number of medical centers fine-tuning their operations to deal with the added pressure.
