40,000 northern Illinois residents without power

UNDATED (AP) — Severe weather across northern Illinois has left thousands without power, knocked a semitrailer from a highway and lifted the roof from a building at Rockford’s airport.
ComEd says 40,000 customers are without power in northern Illinois, down from a high of 69,000.
National Weather Service meteorologist Stephen Rodriguez says winds in the region have been enhanced by a string of thunderstorms. He says gusts up to 60 miles per hour have been reported near the Wisconsin border.
Rodriguez says a semitrailer was blown from the roadway near Marengo, and a building at the Rockford airport lost its roof.
A tornado watch is in effect for parts of east-central Illinois through Saturday morning.
