Officials: Boy with matches started California fires

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Officials blamed a wildfire that consumed more than 38,000 acres and destroyed 21 homes last week on a boy playing with matches, and said they would ask a prosecutor to consider the case.

  • The village of Limestone will be hosting an annexation meeting for residents of the Heil Estates subdivision at 5:30 pm on Thursday.

Obituary: Leonille Kempen — Beaver Dam, Wis.

Leonille “Lee” Nourie Kempen, 103, of Beaver Dam, Wis., formerly of Kankakee, died Oct. 28 at Sylvan Crossing at Hunters Ridge Assisted Living Home in Beaver Dam, where she had resided since 2000. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, with a 3 p.m. wake service, at the Senesac Funeral Home, Kankakee. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Kankakee.

Police from several agencies captured a man in Kankakee Tuesday afternoon near Mark Twain School and the Taylor Dodge car dealership after he fled from a hit-and-run accident in Momence.

Man charged with videotaping girl

Chilo S. Brading, 31, was charged with four felony counts of unauthorized videotaping Tuesday. He allegedly used a hidden miniature camera to film a teenage family member as she showered on four different occasions. Brading, who lives at 189 S. Fulton Ave. in Bradley, was arrested by police on Monday.

Body found in forest preserve during search for missing mom

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (AP) — Investigators searching for a woman who disappeared during a jog through a south suburban Chicago forest preserve found a body Tuesday and police said they believed it was the missing mother of three.
