Some tips for effectively using the search function to find the photo you
want::
1. BY KEYWORD: Any word that appears in the photo caption in either the
print or online edition can be used. For example, searching for Maroon
would produce all those photos in which that word Maroon appeared in the
photo caption. The search is not case-sensitive.
To search multiple words, simply seperate the words with a blank space
. Your results will contain all entries with each of those words somewhere.
e.g. (Rocks basketball Smith).
To search for exact phrases, place double quotes (") around the exact
phrase that you would like to search. For multiple exact phrases, simply seperate
them with a comma.
e.g. ("John Smith" basketball Rocks, "drives the lane")
2. BY PHOTOGRAPHER: The photographer's name generally appears with
photos in the print and online editions. If you know Terry Herbig took the
picture, for example, entering Herbig as a keyword would produce all the
photos he's taken. The search can be further limited by month and year.
3. BY DATE: entering a date in the keyword field will produce a list of
photos entered into the data base on that date. The date must be in this
format: 00-00-00 (use a dash, not a slash for the divider). This will
produce the photos entered into the database on that date, which often,
but not always, is the same as the date of publication.
A FURTHER TIP: Many of the pictures will include a camera icon and the
word `more'. This indicates that additional photos from the same shooting
session are available. These do not have individual captions so will not
be displayed in response to a keyword search based on caption. The photo
in which you are particularly interested ("I know the photographer got a
picture of Johnny making a great rebound, but it wasn't in the paper.")
may be present behind the "more" link.
