A month before she was fatally shaken in a Kankakee apartment earlier this month, allegedly by her mother's live-in boyfriend, 11-month old Kyarah Coleman was briefly hospitalized in Chicago for what investigators say was a case of undernourishment.

That incident, however, wasn't serious enough to raise any red flags for ongoing abuse or neglect, say local authorities, who continue to investigate the case.
